Reproductive Specialists of The Carolina’s has an amazing office. The staff is always very friendly, attentive, & responsive. We appreciate them helping us getting our bundle of joy. They made the process less stressful & non complicated. Dr. Johnson is a wonderful doctor & a Joy to have gotten to know. She is upfront & to the point.. a straight shooter while being very respectful & caring. We are grateful for Dr. Johnson. We highly recommend Reproductive Specialist of The Carolina’s.
Dr. Johnson and her team took incredible care of me during my fertility journey. It has been so seamless that we came back for a 2nd transfer and this journey was even more stress free than the first. Her office was always friendly and personable and always showed 100% customer service. Response time with portal messages was so fast and reassuring. The nurses are thorough and have such good bedside manner. Dr. Johnson has trained her team well and I would recommend anyone going to her!
UPDATE 9/30 - Dr. Johnson reviewed my issues below and reached out via phone call personally to make sure everything was resolved. The billing issue has been fixed and I am grateful for their quick response. I just wish it didn’t take many, many emails and a google review to get attention but I am grateful for the resolution. This response made me change the rating to 3 stars from its original 2 star rating.Old review -Disclaimer - My experience with the providers and front desk staff was overall pleasant so I dont want this to reflect poorly on them but I cant rate the practice higher than 2 stars overall due to two primary reasons:1. Their abysmal billing team - My husband had some basic blood drawn in JUNE and we received a bill from Quest for $1600. I reached out to Quest and they told me that RSC Billed the visit incorrectly resulting in the huge amount due. Quest kindly put our account on hold for 60 days while we waited for resolution. I emailed again and again from June and did not receive a response until September 5th ( I also tried calling frequently but never got a hold of anyone). This issue is still not resolved and I have again resorted to emailing back every week for an update as my 60 day hold with Quest is now expired. This is not the only billing communication issue weve had with the practice.2. Poor communication if youre not in an active treatment cycle - I will give credit where credit is due and acknowledge that the practices communication is good if youre in a current treatment cycle. HOWEVER if you have any questions between cycles, you will likely not hear back from someone unless you send multiple portal messages and this can cause delays in treatment.
Disappointed and waiting for the credit on my account to be returned - and an itemized bill. The clinical staff either don’t respond or are slow to respond or respond with insufficient information. This is primarily because they try to conduct business via their portal as opposed to speaking to patients on the phone. Services are extremely expensive for the same quality of care you’d receive from reputable clinics. We chose RSC based on the fact that it is owned and managed by a woman of color with an all-female team of professionals. Great experience with the doctor assigned (Dr. Ghidei) despite not having a positive pregnancy. If it were possible, we would’ve loved the opportunity to be under her care at a different clinic. Beware of the price tag and pay attention to billing statements. And don’t expect to be treated other than a number by the administrative and clinical staff.
This was a long journey for me 2 years to be exact. But it was worth it was worth it. My first try I’m 10 weeks pregnant awaiting my baby boy. Dr. Ghidei is phenomenal. Cassidy and Jenn were very helpful and patient even when my patience were a little low. They were great. Thanks to the receptionist as well I just regret that I didn’t catch their names. Excellent facility and always available! I’m am truly grateful to them!
The RSC team is amazing. They are truly doing such great work in this community. I mostly partnered with Val, NP throughout all of the initial testing for RPL. Val was fabulous. She was willing to jump on the phone with me whenever I needed it. I more recently had an early US with Dr. Ghidei and I can’t say enough great things about my experience. I’ve had multiple traumatic imaging sessions and the compassion and level of care I received was unmatched. She even gave me a hug, that was certainly a first for me from a doctor and I’m all about it. Thank you RSC team for everything. I hope my current pregnancy makes it to term but if not, I know exactly where I am welcomed and supported; and that’s here at RSC.
My fiancee and I have had a wonderful experience with RSC. Everyone is friendly and caring. As members of the LGBTQ+ community, safety and inclusiveness is very important to us and the clinic has always made us feel welcome, safe and cared for. We have been with Dr. Ghidei and couldn’t have had a better physician to begin this journey to starting a family. Thank you RSC!!
We began treatment at RSC in their earlier years (2021), when the office was downstairs, we graduated in fall 2023, and we welcomed our first baby boy this past spring (2024) thanks to all of the doctors, embryologists, & staff at RSC! Allie, Val, Dr. Johnson, Elaine, & Dr. Ghidei always made us feel right at home and like we were their first & only priority every time we were in the office (which was a lot)! Second to getting pregnant & their knowledge/expertise, this personal connection mattered so much to us & made such a positive difference in our journey to parenthood! I will also say that not a word has ever been said by anyone about my being overweight. Another clinic in Charlotte told me that they wouldnt even see me for a consult if my BMI wasnt at a certain number & I was devastated. That clinic & their BMI policy made me feel like I was irresponsible for wanting to have a baby as a plus sized woman. But, I never, ever felt discriminated against or ashamed of my size at RSC!!!While Im so happy for Dr. Johnson that her practice has grown (the new office upstairs is BEAUTIFUL!) and so, so many patients are being helped on their journey to parenthood, I do feel that some of the personal connection from the office staff & nurses that I felt & I was really, really impressed with at first was lost over the years (not from the NPs & Doctors though). Additionally, as mentioned in other reviews, communication is primarily via a portal and that presents some communication barriers which were frustrating at times. But, neither of these things are reasons we would ever choose or recommend a different clinic. You are in great hands at RSC & I would (and do) recommend them for your fertility needs!
Dr. Ghidei is a breath of fresh air. She truly cares about her patients and listens to every concern weve had. She routinely educates us and is incredibly patient and kind. Very grateful to have had her as our doctor throughout our tough secondary infertility journey. Each staff member that weve worked with is great. From Nic and Cathy at the front desk to Amelia and all of the other wonderful medical assistants along with the phlebotomists who have become family to us. Thanks RSC for being an inclusive facility that truly puts the needs of your patients first.
I was really hopeful about this clinic given my OBs recommendation (my OB is just 2 floors up at Rankin). However, my husband has left several messages to schedule his blood test/specimen appointment and I have sent a message through the portal. I’ve never had this hard of a time getting a live person on the phone. Even their automated system directs you to send a portal message! However, if you go into the portal there’s a note at the bottom telling you that the portal isn’t intended to be a primary form of communication. Which is it? I’m currently looking for a new clinic before I waste more time and money just to be disappointed.
We had such a great experience here. Dr. Johnson and Val were awesome. They provided great care throughout our journey to our little girl Lilith. We are so grateful!
Ive waited a long time to write this review because I wanted to be able to share that because of RSC, I am now a father to a beautiful baby boy. RSC did an incredible job and ultimately helped us get to the finish line, i.e. a successful pregnancy and birth. I will always be grateful to them and their amazing staff like Jennifer M and Dr. Ghidei for their professionalism and constant contact to make sure I understood the process, answering questions in a timely manner, and being so kind! Thank you so much, RSC, for everything ❤️!
Weve had much better communication with REACH. They always have someone to answer the phone and respond super fast in the portal. Unfortunately, communication wasnt our only problem. There were multiple issues with billing. We started with Dr. Johnson since she was friends with my Gyn Onc and we stuck with her during her family leave and office move. I wish she had performed a sonohysterogram at any point when I was in her care, because I had scar tissue that needed to be removed.
Have not used them in over a year and a half then got sent a bill from their new partner embryo options saying we now own them $600 for new storage! We dont have anything stored with them and reproductive specialists of the Carolinas surprise surprise never picks up the phone (which is on of the main reasons we are no longer with them) so if you like incompetent record keeping paying thousands of dollars and making sure no one ever picks up the phone or contacts you and any kind of reasonable manner use them. Cant wait to see this medical debt!
I chose this practice so I could cut down on the expense of fertility treatment due to traveling etc. It took 6 months to get an appointment for initial consultation which was a tele-visit. There were two people present. One conducted the visit (the nurse) and the other I assumed was a new nurse observing the process, however, at the end of the visit I was introduced to this person as being Dr.Matrika Johnson. I found it very odd that she really didnt interact with me during the visit, but sometimes good doctors do not have good bedside manner, so I let it go. After this visit it took several months to get in for basic testing. It then took several months for follow up testing including being told to see a surgeon for evaluation since I have a history of fibroids. He did not recommend more surgery because I already had two fibroid removals and the fibroids I had were small and not in the cavity. When I finally got back in to discuss the results of that visit and the testing, Dr, Johnson told me that I needed to have a hysteroscopy. I had to wait several more months to get on the schedule for that. I had the procedure. Typically, the doctor will give you an update as to what was found the same day or next day and will follow up to see how you are doing. This did not occur. I was curious and worried that I hadnt been given any information. After a day or so, I sent a message through the portal asking about my results. It took 1-2 days for the nurse to respond (they prefer that you use the portal and if you call in addition to a portal message they will not respond at all). She told me that I had to get the results from Dr. Johnson. I would have to wait a couple of months to get an appointment to get the results! That is NOT how having a procure of any type works. I then went online and posted a negative review. Within an hour I got a response (she finally allowed the nurse to tell me she didnt find anything in my uterine cavity) and an appointment that was within the next week. Because of that, I removed the review. When I went in, Dr, Johnson informed me that although there was nothing found that she could surgically remove she would not allow me to move forward as a patient for FET because my uterus isnt perfect and she only does transfers on perfect uteruses. So she had me go under anesthesia when the surgeon already told her he would not advise another fibroid removal even if there was one to remove, knowing that she did not consider me a candidate for reproductive assistance because of my history of fibroids. (She did not take or suggest a biopsy or anything else). I have to take responsibility for not pressing her for a clear explanation as to why I needed this procedure. This took a year and a half total of the time and money I could have spent at a different clinic. She then tried to suggest a lock cycle after making it clear she would not do an embryo transfer for me. She is not in this medical field for the right reasons. It would be best to chose a different doctor/ fertility practice.
3/13/24 Update: Nephertira, you are a blessing! Not only did the Billing Manager call me within a quick turnaround time of me alerting them to my concern, but she thorougly explained all charges, expressed empathy and was apologetic for any confusion/inconvenience caused. She provided resolutions and was easy to work with. I will always respect and appreciate this level of customer service and look forward to my familys relationship with RSC. Updating to 4 stars from 3.3/12/24First let me start by saying I enjoyed meeting Dr. Ghidei and seeing that we aligned on my treatment plan.My biggest concern at this time is their billing. It certainly makes RSC seem like a company that doesnt care if they bill correctly. Im grateful that I have the knowledge I have which helped me catch discrepencies, but I feel for others that may not be as aware. Always check your claims, charges, how long your visit lasted, quotes provided, medical coverage....everything. This is not just advice when dealing with RSC. Youd be surprised how many practices incorrectly bill patients. Its unfortunate to see the reviews referencing being billed incorrectly. Especially when all we want to do is work with a compassionate and responsible team to help us achieve a dream. While I understand that billing as a whole can be difficult to navigate for many practices its disheartening to see what appears to be a lack of care.I hope and pray that they get a handle on this before it causes huge problems for their clinic.
Dr. Johnson, Allie and the rest of the team at RSC is super friendly and very nice! we felt comfortable since the very beginning and am very happy with their service! I highly recommend them for all your fertility needs! Thank you again Dr Johnson!
My first IVF experience was HORRID and I was referred to Dr Johnson by two different doctors. This is when she initially started her practice and the initial visit took some time to get. Ill say I was initially frustrated with the wait but all things happen in perfect time and Im glad I waited.Ive been with Dr Johnson and staff for 2 years and although I experienced some up and downs on my journey I would want no other doctor to be with me but Dr. Johnson.Sometimes you may not understand the starts and stops or pivots to another protocol but one thing for sure she doesnt do anything without your best interest at heart. She is methodical, knowledgeable and caring - and my family and I will forever be grateful for the little blessing were experiencing growing daily.Only downside to my journey with Dr Johnson is having to leave her and the staff to go to the regular obstetrician . We will truly miss her and her wonderful staff!Seriously everyone here has been a blessing from Dr Johnson to Nurse Jenn to the friendly and sweet front desk staff to the techs that usher you back to the room and remember your name to the phlebotomist that take your blood with care.We will miss you all but well be back with our little bundle for a visit.Update: I am the proud MOTHER of a healthy 7.5lbs, 20 inch baby girl and we have Dr. Johnson to THANK for our little miracle baby! Dr. Johnson is truly one of a kind!
Dr Johnson is an excellent doctor. She cares and her is main objective is her patients goal to conceive!! I love her
Absolutely loved my experience at RSC! Every doctor, nurse, and staff member were so kind and friendly- they make you feel at home and less like you’re in a clinic setting. The ladies in phlebotomy are a hoot! I never had a problem getting quick responses to scheduling appointments or answering questions. My primary doctor was Allie, but you get to know everyone depending on who is available for appointments. I always felt like everyone was on “my team” and hoping for success! I am sad to leave because I will miss the care at RSC, but am thrilled to be expecting a baby girl thanks to Allie and the whole RSC team!
I cannot say enough good things about our PA, Allie. Knowledgable, compassionate, and vigilant, she always seems to have me leaving the office feeling better than when I walked in.When the stakes are high and the odds are low, Allie and the RSC team are definitely the folks to have in your corner. Thankful for them every day, but especially today.
I had a wonderful experience with this clinic! Before coming here, I went to another well known clinic in the Charlotte area (which was a terrible experience) and wanted a second opinion. RSC listened to my concerns and answered all my questions thoroughly. Every visit to the office, phone call or virtual visit was a pleasant experience! You do need to stay on top of your paperwork and portal to make sure everything is in place.Because of the wonderful people here, I welcomed my son into the world just a few days ago! I cannot give this team enough praise. They completely changed my life : )
This is worst healthcare experience I ever had. Do not go there! It operates like a giant, soulless factory, very impersonal, with poor communication with patients. Nobody cares about you - its all about making money, not patient service or experience. I wish I did my research read all these negative reviews in advance and went somewhere else...
A huge waste of time and money. Wrong medication amounts sent to the pharmacy ($200 copays add up - they dont care), no training on injections, zero communication. Its been over a year since I left this clinic and still waiting for a refund on money deposited. Highlights include being yelled at by a nurse when I asked questions and hung up on. Calling dozens of times to talk to billing, no response to messages, unable to talk to anyone when you call. Because this clinic only does retrievals certain weeks, its completely limited when you can do a retrieval, they do not have your best interest at heart and they dont get results to boot. I ended up leaving Charlotte completely to go to a good clinic and its been completely different. RSC just makes life hard and stressful, at a time when it shouldnt be.
We loved working with Valerie at RSC! Excited to welcome our twins to the world. Thank you for the great experience.
We had a great experience with Dr. Ghidei at RSC after being with another clinic that was subpar. She was very welcoming and warm with us knowing that we went through a miscarriage before coming to her. It was great to actually see a doctor at every visit and get to communicate with her through the patient portal. She checked my hormones frequently to time IUI correctly and get my hormone dosage right. She monitored my pregnancy frequently until it was time for us to move on and squeezed me in immediately when I had a miscarriage scare. She actually did our procedure and ultrasounds herself, which made it very easy to ask questions and get her opinion. I give Dr. Ghidei the highest of recommendations!
Hey quick update on the baby, James Adom is doing well. He is now 3 months old and 10lb 15 oz. He was born 3lb and 8oz at 32weeks . He is healthy and happy baby. I am so grateful for Dr. Johnson especially for being there during the first 10 weeks of gestation. Honestly, I don’t think I could have asked for a more attentive doctor and nurse team to help me stay pregnant. There at least two times when I was scared that I had miscarried but Dr. Johnson assured more that everything was normal each time. Thanks again Reproductive specialists of the Carolinas.
Unbelievable patient experience. Valerie and team helped advocate for me and guide me at every step of the way. Thank you RSC!
The doctors were great. I had the sweetest doctor named Allison and I would recommend this place to others, they have a great staff.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience with these specialists. After three miscarriages, we decided to seek specialized care. It took a while to get things going due to them transitioning to a new location (which is beautiful, clean, and welcoming), but once they moved we hit the ground running. They scheduled multiple tests to take place within a month. Ultimately, the results were inconclusive. However, once I became pregnant again they walked with me every step of the way until I was 10 weeks along. I went in multiple times a week for blood work and every other week for an ultrasound. They detected a slight oddity in one of my hormones and gave me a medication to take for a few weeks. They were kind, empathetic, and highly skilled while exhibiting a warm nature that you rarely find within the medical field. We now have a beautiful baby boy that is almost 7 months old. I am still unsure what caused our previous trouble but I will 100% be visiting this clinic the moment we decide to try for another.Airiss Eifert
What an amazing and supportive experience! I am so thankful to all the team members who assisted with my vitrification process. I highly recommend Reproductive Specialists of the Carolinas. Dr. Johnson has created a well ran facility and their new location is great. They have a really nice welcoming facility, well laid out process and very communicative. Especially with reviewing medication, when and how to take them :-). I really liked their online portal option that stayed up to date with messages, prescriptions, billing, health records, appointments, etc. There was never a time that I did not get a phone call, an email, or a message back in the portal after reaching out. The portal is a great way to get in the queue. I remember Dr. Johnson saying, there are many of us(patients) and a small staff, but they do really get it done. To me it seemed like a large operation and each team member I worked with was very patient and always willing to take time to explain the process, next steps and what to expect. They were always on top of prescription orders and working with my insurance company. This was a great journey and looking forward to coming back in the future for part 2 :-) Thank you all once again!
Every experience weve had at RSC has been positive, and we are very grateful. We drive 2.5 hours to receive services and treatment and it is well worth our time. Dealing with infertility has been a shock and surprise for us and, since our first meeting with Allie, she made us feel welcome, comfortable, and reassured us of the process and our options. We can tell that she listened to what we said because, at future appointments, she asked us very specific questions, and we were shocked she remembered those personal details. Dr. Ghidei has been very thorough, patient, and answered all the questions we have. She was very specific and detailed about treatment and timelines, and we appreciated her honesty about potential outcomes. The front office staff is very welcoming and friendly as well as those doing all the bloodwork. Overall, RSC has surpassed our expectations thus far and we are grateful to have them during this difficult journey.
Love this whole team from the front desk, nurses, PAs, and doctors. Even the convos with other women that happened in lobby it’s a great environment and so glad they helped me through this journey
What a waste of my time! I spent 20 minutes on the phone with a nurse to review all of my paperwork, scheduled a virtual visit for my lunch break just to get some questions answered, and even had to pay a $50 deposit beforehand. My appointment was scheduled at 1pm and by 1:10, Im still waiting. I called the office to see whats going on and they put me on hold for another 10 minutes. At 1:21 the doctor appears and says their lunch meeting ran over later than expected. No apology...still on hold with the office. The doctor reviews the SAME information I already discussed with the nurse and tells me this is protocol and then shell answer my questions. Ten minutes of that and then I ask my couple of questions for a total of an eleven-minute visit! I got the information I wanted. Thanks but too expensive. Then you have the audacity to bill my insurance a LEVEL 5 visit for $325!?!? How could you possibly bill a 60-minute visit for that? I even called the office to discuss my bill....no one has called me back. Im not surprised! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME!
So far my experience with RSC has been great! The staff has been very friendly, accommodating and they are VERY good with communication.I have been working with Allison (PA-C) and she has been fantastic! Very knowledgeable and patient with my questions and concerns. I will be having surgery with Dr Johnson soon and look forward to meeting her. I have only heard good things!Dont let the 1 star reviews deter you from scheduling with this practice. It seems like the wait for appointments is the complaint and honestly, for me, that just shows they are a sought out practice and they are busy!We have to remember we are hundreds of women and couples trying to build our families, but they are a small practice and can only do so much and see so many in a day.Be kind always.I will have an update post op!
I transferred to this clinic after having a terrible experience at a well known clinic in Charlotte. Allison ran several tests on me when I first got there that the other clinic didn’t do at all and was able to recommend supplements I should take. She even sent a prescription in for my thyroid because my level wasn’t where it should be. The last clinic performed two IUI’s on me and only did the basic blood work before the IUI, so I was super grateful that Allison made it a point to check everything to be sure all was operating correctly in my body. I started my IUI cycle with them this week and I am very hopeful for success. They have all been so kind and thorough from the first day I started. My heart tells me that this is definitely the place that will help me get my rainbow baby! ❤️
I really started out liking and trusting this doctor and staff when I first saw her, and there are many caring nurses and PAs there. I have been really disappointed in the quality of care as it has declined since her practice has grown. It is incredibly difficult to get appointments and many of the administrative staff are just plain forgetful or dont feel bothered. I felt helpless dealing with this clinic throughout my journey. They also made me feel ignored. I hate to admit that I wouldnt trust them to do fertility procedures for me because I dont think they are organized enough to do so or capable. I just dont have any left confidence in them.
Dr. Johnson and her team excel in their field, and I cant praise their expertise and dedication enough during my journey. However, my reason for giving a 3-star review is the troublesome experience Ive had with the billing department. Ive had to personally verify my benefits and track procedure costs, even following up on claims. I completed my journey in May, and Im still awaiting reimbursement for overpayment. Regrettably, my calls and messages now receive no response.
I LOVE this office. Allie, Valerie, & Dr. Johnson are all extremely pleasant and helpful. I have made many, many trips here during my journey and it is always a pleasure seeing them. The nursing staff and front end staff are helpful and literally the nicest people. I really enjoy going here. The office and atmosphere are comforting and welcoming. Would recommend them over and over again!
Based upon the expectation that your medical experts are partners in your care, this practice has some work to do to deliver on that expectation. Slow/no follow-ups, conflicting communications, empathy-light approach. Highly recommend this practice hire a patient experience consultant to improve communications, review/change vendors for the portal, billing and insurance pre-approvals and train their staff, including doctors on how to be a better partners in patient care and deliver a more seamless and less stressful experience. Unfortunately after a year with the practice, it was not worth the added frustration of navigating this practices shortcomings and inefficiencies on top of an already stressful fertility journey. The one highlight is Nurse Onet - she is an amazing asset.
The worst clinic I have ever been to in my life! Don’t go there; they behave like a shop, trying to sell treatments, and nobody cares about you! If you don’t apply for a treatment or would like to explore alternative paths to have a baby, you are not important to them. Dr. Eskew was cruel from the first time she saw me; she changed the diagnosis multiple times, and she has never followed my case or tried to help me.I was the one who had to request the exams or answers, and after each exam, I had to call or send a message seeking a response. Dealing with infertility is a difficult and emotional journey, and it becomes even worse if your doctor doesnt provide guidance or support.
This review is specifically for the phlebotomist. I cant remember her name, but she is a Caucasian woman, and she drew my blood today. She said she was new. She originally was a temp tech and was brought on full time. Im not afraid of needles and have had my blood drawn too many times to count. In my 34 years, I have never had my blood drawn where I couldnt feel it. She is the best in the business! If you are afraid of needles, she is your go to. I didnt feel a thing! She was also very sweet and had great conversation. I think everyone at RSC should take a note from her book, especially the front desk. She actually brightened up my day. Do whatever you can to keep her on staff. Professionals like her are the reasons why I return to a company. I was very pleased. I never usually write Google reviews, but I really wanted to write this one because she deserves the kudos. Thank you!
I would HIGHLY recommend RSC to anyone in need. From day one they were interested in learning who you are, where you are from, and were really seeking to find the cause of your infertility. Soon after starting at RSC it felt as if they were family, yet always kept it professional. They also answered any and all questions in a timely manner, as silly as some may seem to be asking. I would 1000% recommend them to anyone looking for specialized care for (in)fertility!
UPDATE: I received a phone call from Dr. Johnson today (5/23/2023), and she was very apologetic for her staffing managers actions and the difficulties I experienced. She was even willing to move forward with scheduling an appointment for me as soon as next week, but Ive already moved forward with another office. Thank you, Dr. Johnson for reaching out.I was referred to this fertility specialist office by my OBGYN and I was super excited at first because the office is ran by a black female doctor, HOWEVER, I NEVER made it passed scheduling an appointment for the referral I received! The staff there is very unresponsive! They were supposed to call me and never did so I called them. The first few times, no one answered the phone, so I left messages and NEVER received a call back. When I finally did get someone on the phone they said they couldnt find my referral, but once they did find it in the system, the receptionist told me that she can only schedule consultation appointments and someone from the medical staff would call me back the same day to schedule the specific medical appointment I needed, and they NEVER called me back! I called again the next day and the same receptionist answered the phone and placed me on hold for 20 minutes waiting for someone from the medical side to be available to take my call, well guess what THEY HUNG UP ON ME! Needless to say I went back to my OBGYN and asked to be referred somewhere else as I was no longer confident in this office and did not want to go on my fertility journey with them due to their unresponsiveness and lack of care. So please beware if you are referred to this office, the staff is VERY UNRESPONSIVE! Its so sad because I was so excited to potentially go on this journey with a black female doctor.
Infertility sucks but having a clinic like this one helps. So far I’ve only done 2 IUIs with this clinic. I can say I never feel like just a number with any of the medical staff. Allison is especially great to work with. I see a lot of new staff but they seem to be getting the hang of things pretty quickly. Everyone is super friendly. My appointments never feel rushed and they answer any concerns I have at my appointment. They even take the time to explain the process of my treatments and why things happen how they do. The last clinic I went to couldn’t even do that. They needed me in and out quick.Down side to this clinic (but I feel it’s the same with any medical practices now) is you will not be able to reach anyone by phone unless you’re extremely lucky. So if you’re a person that relies on phone calls then you’ll get frustrated. Even voicemails do not get returned sometimes. Everything is handled in their portal which is kinda tricky to get a hang of. You can’t respond to messages sent and have to create new ones and make sure to type in the correct department. It’s not a very good system but it does get the job done when you are an established patient. You can see test results, request/view appointments and let the staff know as soon as you start a cycle. They are very quick to respond to messages regarding time sensitive treatments. I just am not a fan of the way messages are set up.It appears this is a smaller clinic as far as the amount of staff I’ve seen so I think it may be impossible to answer phone calls or return voicemails promptly from the amount of patients they have. A few mornings I’ve come in and there’s nowhere to sit they get so busy. So I’m the end I’m thankful for the portalIt’s a very small detail but I love that they offer drinks and snacks in the waiting room. I get a bit dizzy when I get bloodwork but food and water helps me tremendously when I have to take the long drive back home.
I have had a very positive experience thus far with RSC! While I did have to wait a little while for my New Patient appointment, once my husband and I were able to see Dr. Johnson everything has moved very quickly and smoothly. I LOVE that it is an all female practice, and all of the women in the office take such care to ensure that the needs of the patient are met. Whenever I need to ask a question or get ahold of a team member, they are quick to respond to a portal message. I am very thankful for the entire staff at RSC and would recommend it to anyone seeking fertility care.
My initial intention, for this review was to be more kind that informative however, the response that I received never even addressed my full issues with RSC. I feel along the way of becoming a larger business somewhere that joy of pregnancy was lost the focus of giving other women that joy was lost. I had several issues with his company, and it was quite apparent to me after six months that I was not going to achieve my goal of becoming pregnant. One issue was they supposedly could not locate the paperwork from my psychologist that was sent to them. Then while taking bloodwork and ultrasound, they managed to miss my ovulation and finally I was overcharged which I try to explain to them I did not owe this sum of money however they would not do my last procedure until I paid it then sent me a statement showing that I was ultimately right about the payment and I have yet to receive that back. With the process itself being this stressful for me I decided to go back to home insemination, especially since I was paying out of pocket. I am so happy for the other women that had a great experience and I do hope that the next woman does not have the experience I did.Good Luck!
I switched from a well known clinic in Charlotte and this clinic is incomparable. So glad I made the decision to switch for a second opinion. Everyone at this office is so sweet and attentive. I love the fact that Dr. Johnson creates protocols specific to the patient’s needs. She listens with concern, is very knowledgeable and truly cares about her patients. My husband and I are are grateful for Dr. Johnson and her team’s expertise. I could not recommend a better clinic for your reproductive needs.
I can’t say enough good things about Reproductive Specialists of the Carolinas. I switched my care to them from a well know, nearby fertility clinic after feeling like I wasn’t receiving specialized care and was just a number. During my first consultation with RSC we developed a personalized treatment plan. Valerie and Alli are the absolute best. Both of them really made me feel like they truly cared about me, my worries and finding success. The nursing team was always very friendly as well as the administrative team. The entire office is welcoming, updated, and beautiful. They’ve also done a great job at creating as good of a monitoring process as you can get (Monitoring is very time consuming and unpleasant in general, but this is the best I’ve experienced).I can’t wait to meet my little girl this entire team helped me create. This isn’t a recommendation I’d want to make for someone, but if a friend is in need of fertility treatment and help TTC I would absolutely send them to RSC.
My egg freezing cycle was great! This is the first surgery I’ve ever had and I’m very happy with the outcome. As a patient, it’s hard to trust the process, but I would not have chosen any other team to care for me. For any new patients planning to join RSC, I strongly urge you to read all documents in full that are uploaded to your patient portal. The providers review the process with you but the documents explain it in more detail. Getting someone on the phone is difficult, but the portal messages are the best and easiest way to get your questions answered. Thank you RSC staff for all your help!
The absolute worse fertility clinic experience & Im really disappointed to even have to say that. I chose this clinic because it had better reviews than some of the other local clinics and also because the owner is a Black woman which I felt was encouraging. I tired to give this clinic.a chance but it is just too many red flags.1st, our provider had my husband and I waiting for 20 mins past our virtual consultation scheduled time. She apologized once she hopped on the phone so i figured, we could definitely give her and this clinic the benefit of the doubt. Then I was scheduled that same day for testing in office in which i arrived to, only to find out that they do not take my insurance. Mind you, the very 1st question i received in booking was what is your insurance in which they followed up by saying it was covered. i was told Id receive a phone call a week or 2 before my appointment confirming it, I never did. So i called myself and once again they say it was confirmed. The ladies in the office told me (the day i showed up for testing procedures) that they left a note in my portal telling me this which was false since there was no notes in my portal. Fast forward, billing finally calls me back after countless voicemail to tell me that my insurance IS in network and that i will not be responsible for the consultation fee. a week later, i get a bill for the consultation. smh. Lastly, they did a horrible or non-existent job of explaining my husbands pre-care info for his individual testing which made us lose time again. No one ever returns your phone calls. i cannot explain how many times I have left voicemails, its unheard of for a doctors office. Weve been dealing with them for going on a month and have gotten no where, just an extra bill and wasted time. Please avoid.
I’m very grateful to RSC as an entire team. I was referred to this practice by my OB-GYN as I was interested in freezing my eggs. From consultation all the way through my egg retrieval/post care, I found everyone to be extremely friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I’m very pleased with my results and grateful this process was completed with as much ease as possible. As an added note, I travel a lot for work and they were extremely helpful in planning, guiding for dates I needed to receive medicine and when I needed to block off my schedule for no travel.Special shout-outs to Dr. Ghidei, Dr. Eskew, and Nurse Ellison who all went above and beyond with my care and treatment.
My whole experience with this center has been amazing. From the front desk associates, the phlebotomist Sarah to the nurses and nurse practitioners and embryologist and especially Dr. Ghidei I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. To the new clients, the patient portal is your best friend. If you have any issues, questions, concerns your best bet is to utilize your patient portal to get in touch with you care team. They will respond as soon as possible. This is not a fast process so patience is a must. I started my ivf cycle in feb and was pregnant by May. We’re looking forward to meeting our son in February and I can’t wait to share the pictures of him with the center. Thank you all so very much!
We had a really good experience! The clinic itself is beautiful and the atmosphere very relaxing. Everyone is very welcoming and they are very empathetic with your fertility journey.Dr Johnson really takes the time to listen to your concerns and answers all your questions. All the PA’s and nurses are also very sweet and professional. I highly recommend this clinic.
Dr. Johnson is amazing and has been a blessing to my husband & I. She was right there with us throughout the good times and bad times of our IVF journey and we knew that she had our best interest at heart. I could count on her to be honest with us, even if it was something I didn’t want to hear. She worked hard to find a treatment to specifically meet our needs and was always there to lean on during the process. We welcomed our baby girl in April and we cannot thank Dr. Johnson enough for helping our dream of becoming parents come true. She will always have a special place in our hearts. Thank you again, Dr. Johnson!
BE AWARE. The financial counseling and billing department have zero accountability. We have been trying to speak with Margaret or Dorothy for almost 2 months to understand our options, however have yet to receive a response from either. We have been told several times that they will call us later in the day or the next day, with zero luck.PA Allison and the blood work nurse are fantastic, hence the reason for not receiving 1 star.
This is such an amazing team . I will tell you to communicate with everyone from RSC team (I just had never been through the IVF experience so I didn’t know certain things and I didn’t know to ask) through the portal then your life is easy and you know everything you need to do. I LOVE the nurses here (I need to give a shout out to Valerie , Allie, and Amy…you all are the best ) and Dr. Johnson is amazing 🤩 for future patients, you’re in the best hands
So, today was my first visit. I was scheduled for a consultation, but because I didnt complete the initial paperwork, I learned that upon arrival, my appointment was canceled. I honestly forgot there was paperwork i needed to complete. However, I didnt have an issue with the appointment being canceled, but someone called me a day before from the facility about my insurance, and I asked if everything was good to go to come into my appointment. I was told yes. I asked if anything else needed of me. I was told no. But, apparently, that wasnt the case. The lady at the front desk Maggie was so concerned about my insurance that she didnt realize she was going into way too much in front of an open bay waiting room full of people with no privacy. I didnt care for the matter, and she explained she was the billing manager. However, she rescheduled me for another appointment in 2 days. Im going to try it again to see how this appointment goes before writing this facility off completely. So far, it seems they are big on money to the point that it is their primary concern. Lets just see how their care and treatments compare to the cost.Response to Dr. Matrika JohnsonMy issue as stated before was not about the cancelation or insurance. it was about the way Ms. Maggie the Billing Manager handled the matter at the front desk in an open bay room. My insurance was already approved and confirmed prior to my arrival. She simply went into more detailed then needed in front of everyone
I’ve been seeing Dr. Matrika Johnson since February 2021 on and off. I’ve been to REACH and Carolinas Fertility Institute and RSC has the best and nicest people I have interacted with this far. I had a SHG and it was really painful and afterwards the practitioner, Valerie, was super nice and even Dr. Johnson checked on me to make sure everything was okay. They are super informative. They’ve grown a lot since 2021 and so getting someone on the phone is difficult sometimes, but that is remedied by using the portal. I always get an answer within 24-48hrs. Dorothy in Billing is very on top of things and was super nice when we spoke with her over the phone and in person. I feel safe when I go in. I feel like the staff wants to help us and we’re not just another number or inconvenience or too emotional. Dr. Johnson and her staff are amazing. I’m very thankful that I was referred to her and I would recommend her to anyone!
Dr. Johnson and her staff are amazing! Currently pregnant with twins after successful treatment 😊
Overall my experience at this clinic was positive. The staff is competent and the end result was me getting pregnant. If that’s all you’re looking for, come here. Again, they are all competent.Pros - Valerie (absolute fave), Dr.Ghidei, Allie, Tiffany, Jenn, the anesthesiologist (blk woman), the embryologists were all beyond amazing. They answer questions thoughtfully. They are attentive. They are kind and thorough.Cons - Dr. Matrika Johnson! She is horrible. I’m sorry. She is rude. She rushes you. She is condescending. The list goes on but she is competent, no one can take that from her. I’ve left the office and cried in my car many times. She’s been the topic of dinner conversations with my MD friends who urged me to find another Dr. but IVF is difficult enough and the further you get in the process, the last thing you want to do is start it over with someone else. My husband felt the same way about her.I’d encourage ppl to come here but know when dealing with her that she is not the most kind or warm & fuzzy doctor and typically that’s fine but she is horrible. Know she may hurt your feelings and come across rude. Perhaps there’s no self awareness there or she just doesn’t care.Again, this is my personal experience and I am happy that others have had more pleasant ones.Edit - You all have my eggs/embryos. I definitely wouldn’t review you under my real name. It’s unfortunate that women can’t speak out publicly because of how delicate the process is when your most precious cargo is in limbo.
Negligent. Constant headaches with miscommunication and mis-information from the very beginning. Issues with medications and timing. Barely any instruction given at all. Slow responses (days- weeks sometimes) to portal messages. Billing dept. Very unprofessional. Claims were denied as an In-Network Provider. Since I’ve transferred facilities I’ve had NONE of the same issues I was having with this place. They don’t care about you as a person at all, you’re a number and $$ to them. Their entire system is broken. Save yourself the headaches and go down the street.
I would not recommend this facility. I was 38 when I first called in June for an appointment and was offered one in end of September- 3.5 months wait just to get in. Then in September after a video call they schedule my next appointment for blood work in November. Results are out and the next available appointment to discuss the results and treatment is January 28th!!! By that time I am already 39 and for someone my age every month counts. So I tell myself I need to be patient and once I am an established patient, then things will move faster. After the video call in January we decide for a treatment starting in Feb, then we do a second treatment in March and then they tell me if it did not work I need to schedule follow up appointment with the doctor- and they give me an appointment on July 8th- 5 months wait!!! I though once you get in for treatment things will move faster. Sadly no. So I had no choice but look for another provider. Also they are more expensive than other clinics. After finding another provider I was surprised to find out that the price I payed for an IUI with Rep Spec of the Carolinas was almost double and out of pocket.I was told by their financial advisor that my insurance doesnt cover the treatment. Funnily with the new provider half of the treatment is covered. And after the second treatment I get a phone call from them- I assumed they wanted to know if the procedure worked. No, they call me to remind me to pay a bill and did not even bother to ask if it worked or not.
I love everyone at Doctor Johnson’s office. I’m just getting started with her but have a great feeling about our plan. Everyone is nice, gives prompt responses, and genuinely has/shows compassion about what your going through. I will update on if I become pregnant or not too!
My husband and I have been trying to schedule an appointment for months. Nobody ever answers the phone or return phone calls. We also made multiple requests to make an appointment via their website. My husband received one call back, but he was at work and couldn’t answer right away. He called back only minutes later and was told that the person who called him will have to call him back. He never got another phone call! I am a healthcare provider and have worked for a reproductive endocrinologist in the past. I’ve never seen a doctor’s office not answering the phone this much. Even if there’s no availability for new patients, it would be nice to have a courtesy phone call letting us know.
When experiencing infertility the last thing you want is added on stress but since starting my treatments here it’s just been one added stress after another. When I first started at the clinic they told me they would be moving spaces and there would be a period that the IVF lab/ iui thing would be closed. So my first appointment ended up as a ovulation induction, then after a waiting period which was a skipped cycle I got the first IUI appointment. Keep in my mind this was my first IUI and they literally providing me with no guidance, I had to ask so many questions myself. The lab stuff closed again after my first IUI was unsuccessful! Which I was unaware there would be two closing periods so I had to skip another cycle. Meanwhile I tried to get in contact with insurance/billing to ask questions regarding cost for IUI and fertility coverage. It took almost one month for someone to reach out to me. In addition, when I finally spoke to someone at billing they suggested to schedule the IVF consult since the books get full early. Based on their suggestion I called early July for scheduling to tell me the earliest appointment they had was mid- September. When was someone else such the NP or the DR planning on tell me that I should have something scheduled as part of my treatment plan? I had expressed that I was interested in doing only 2-3 cycles of IUI. Currently on my second round of IUI and communication this cycle has been horrible. When I called to schedule my baseline appointment, I literally had to argue to get my appointment scheduled for my cycle day 4 because I had a balance of $182, that I had not received the billing statement for. I explained that I have successfully paid all my balances on time and that for me to use the HSA money I needed a billing statement. The next day they tell me that my billing statement was going to be sent out in like 3 days based on last name. So based on your billing statement schedule, I was about to not get scheduled for an appointment that was needed? At this point, I am not entirely sure if I even want to move forward the IVF consult. They have already made me miss 3 potential cycles so what’s a few more cycles missed and I can receive treatment elsewhere that maybe cares a little.
I had the pleasure of working with Valerie Millwood & have nothing but wonderful things to say about her & the office plus Staff. Everything was done in a timely & professional manner & I have a beautiful 5 weeks old daughter now. I highly recommend this office!
I was a patient here but I stopped services because of lack of customer service. They dont return calls and unfortunately, you have to resort to being curt on their voice mails to get anyone to call you back. I called their office for several different inquiries, from billing to medical questions and getting someone to call me back was hard. During the initial appointment, things were not explained to me clearly. For example, I had to take 8 ibuprofens before a scheduled HSG (?) procedure but the process was not thoroughly explained to me. I was instructed to take 800mg of ibuprofen, but I wasnt informed that I needed a prescription and/or to take 4 200 mg ibuprofens. For someone that takes meds and/or is in the medical field, they might know this but I was unaware. On my way to the pharmacy to buy some OTC 800mg ibuprofens, I asked a pharmacists and that is when I was informed that 800mg of Ibuprofen can only be prescribed. The pharmacists is the one that recommended that I take 4 200mg. You would think this is something that could have been explained. For this same procedure, I wasnt prepared and/or informed what it actually was. Thankfully, my BIL whose in the medical field explained it to me thoroughly. If you are going to get this procedure done, you most likely shouldnt drive back from the procedure and most likely, not return to work. Again, something I wish would have been explained to me. As a result, of this I did not go forth with the procedure and honestly, stopped working them. I wish I could say that I had an overall well experience but I did not. At their actual facilities, the staff was warm and inviting but it seems that once you are out the door, youre just a number. I also had a billing issue and I have yet to hear back on that. Lastly, I called them yesterday for another inquiry and have not heard back. I think their policy is 24-48 hours but with my previous experience, I suspect I will not get a call back. Honestly, I dont even plan on following up at this point and I do not wish to be contacted by them. Moving on.
After three years of infertility, three Drs, and being mistreated by a well known competitor of theirs...I found them...and am currently 5 months pregnant with my baby girl. So grateful for them.
It was really nice experience with RSC. All the staff is very friendly and helpful. They really look after you. I am grateful that I found one of the best reproductive specialists. I will reconsider them in future if I need fertility help.
Currently in my third trimester of pregnancy thanks to Dr Johnson’s successful mullerian anomaly surgery. She is an expert in her field. You’ll be in good hands!
Dr Johnson and her team are amazing. Everyone is so friendly, responsive and caring. Dr Johnson really listens and makes a personal plan for you. I highly recommend!
Everyone was so kind and thoughtful throughout our experience, great communication every step of the way. Very responsive in a timely manner, would highly recommend!
Every single person was more than amazing! We always felt right at home! I couldn’t recommend RSC more!!
Amazing experience and felt as my husband and I was heard and explained things. Excited for the journey got our miracle baby.
No sperm banking, knowledge weak in certain areas making whole groups of patients unable to be treated
Love them!!
